And then one day, your heart finally breaks

And then one day, your heart finally breaks
It wasn't the surgeries or the hospital visits or the endless appointments or scary prognoses or brain damage or medication and home treatments and wondering how to tell him that being a fire-fighter is most likely not a viable career option. It was the other day, when DD took "The Day We Met You" off the shelf and left me reading it to DS after she lost interest. It's a super-peppy adoption book all about how the sun shone the day we met, and how we and the grandparents bought all these different things to keep the new baby warm and fed and happy. When we got to the picture of the teddy bear, DS noticed the ribbons from the gift wrap. All he could see was hospital tubing, which is how he interpreted the image. Not the ribbons, not the bow, not the teddy bear. He asked, "Is that a test?"

He was referring, as he does pretty much daily, to a horrific procedure he underwent in March. We just have to wait it out and hope he "gets over it." But I can't even see MYSELF getting over it.

?

He is the most wonderful boy in the whole world and he just doesn't deserve this. I know there are other people on here who feel the same way about their kids...
