I always recommend that anyone who is considering search and reunion have a good therapist who specializes in relinquishment, adoption, search and reunion issues. Even when the reunion turns out wonderful it is still a very emotional experience to handle and a professional support system makes it a lot easier. They know how to deal with unrealistic expectations and the biological need to know one's birth family.
As an adopted mom I searched for and found my daughter's birthmom and since then have become a professional searcher for births, relinquishments and adoptions in California. A reunion is hard for some 50 year olds to deal with muchless an 18 year old. It's just very emotional at any age.
