Automatic citizenship

In February this year, automatic citizenship was granted to foreign born adopted children who were under 18 at the time.
However, your German-born friend needs to apply for US citizenship as an adult. Had her parents taken care of this before she became 18, she would not have to do so now. Encourage her to apply as soon as possible. As matters stand, she does not qualify for most of the benefits that come with being an American citizen.
