Adopting a Bi-racial baby girl!!!
Hi everyone! Ok, I am going to go out on a limb and pray I don't sound ridiculous! My husband and I are caucasion as are our 2 children. We are adopting a bi-racial baby girl who is actually due in 2 weeks!!! We are THRILLED! As the mommy, I have questions about certain things that are basically just a fear of the unknown. With my son I didn't know how to cut a boys hair. Girls you just let it grow and trim it! But what about a boy??? I figured it out. He actually got his daddy's cut! Little twins! Anyway, I have been getting all sorts of questions from family and friends that have in turn made me want answers to their questions. The big one is...hair. I have no experience with this texture and I am interested in what products I should buy and what I can do to style her hair. Also, to us her being bi-racial is of no concern, but I'm sure others will have questions and comments. I'd like to be well prepared, especially for her sake. I want to be able to answer her questions as well and get more involved with others who are AA and bi-racial. I just don't know a whole lot of people! We live in a diverse community, I just don't know where to start or where to plug-in. Suggestions? Also, I have always grown up playing with dolls of various skin tones. I am hoping to do the same with my daughters (2 including the one we are adopting). I don't want to give one the "black" doll and one the "white" doll. Do you think that just giving them each dolls of all colors is a good idea? I am not exactly sure how to approach this. Anyone had experience with this? I'm sure I'll just end up buying the doll they pick out! LOL!!! Thanks for all your in-put! I look forward to your suggestions!!!!!!
