We did everything from filling the papers to hiring the Home Study (the case worker who comes into your home and runs a back ground check on the Adoptor.) The Washington RCW codes state that a stepparent adoption only requires a post placement report. That was $250.00 for a county approved Person to come in to our home and do it. That was included in the 500.00 total we paid. You can do everything on your own. We did it in 4 weeks
