Girl! Born via c-section to due to being breach on June 9th, 2003 at 5:40 pm CST. My husband and I are thrilled, our 2 year old is adjusting and I stand in awe and amazement at the strength and courage of our Birthmom. She is my cousin, so that is making it easier, she says because she will know her baby is being cared for and loved.
We came home last night and are adjusting.....this was a rollercoaster ride from the beginning. I found out my cousin was pregnant shortly after Thanksgiving, it was unexpected, and unplanned. I told my husband, "I want that baby." Not knowing she planned on placing her for adoption. I prayed and prayed and asked for God's will in it all. The week after Christmas my cousin asked us to adopt the baby. We said yes and frantically started making legal and financial arrangements.
Since we live in different states, I knew from other people who had adopted, she had to give birth in our state. So I started planning for her to move in. That never happened. She came up for doctors appts, then went back. Last week, I spent Thursday, Friday and this monday in tears talking to her mom and the doctor's office trying to find away to convince her to stay until the baby was born. I was having nightmares she was in labor and delivered on the interstate.
Then, Monday she had a scheduled doctor's appt, when my aunt came barreling into the apt yelling grab the kid (my older daughter), She's in labor. So I took my 2 year old next door, and off we went to the doctors. There we hurried up and waited, they finally took her back, where they checked to see if her water had broken, it hadn't, she wasn't more dilated, but was having regular contractions. Then the doctor said we have a problem. Not what you want to hear during a pre-natal exam. The baby is breach. You have to have a C-Section if you are in labor. She then sent us to L&D to be monitored. There we sat for 4 hours, while she was on the monitor, with the doctor's debating if she was really was in labor. The doctor said it was to early.
By the 20 wk ultrasound she was only 35 wks. Well, her cervix started changing and dilating, so she was definitely in labor, so they took her back for the C-Section. Only 1 person was allowed back there, so her mom went and I watched through the doors. When I heard Sara Elizabeth cry, I wept. This was my little girl.
I went with her to the nursery, and stayed with her for several hours while she was cleaned up and eventually put under oxygen for grunting. I didn't get to hold her to the next day. I went back to the hospital at 6:30 am and spent the morning in the nursery, and at noon, was given a room as a guest to care for my new daughter. Her b-mom spent time with her Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon, saying goodbye and her I love you's. The hospital staff was outstanding, my extended family, not very understanding about not wanting them to come, they aren't very supportive of the whole thing, I didn't need the stress of their un-support, and the chance they would say something to hurt my cousin.
She is now3 days old. You can see her picture at

Praise and Glory be to God!
