Some cases require licenses in Illinois....
I live in Illinois. I really believe that in order to adopt through an agency in Illinois, we had to have a foster license. I can tell you that if we were to adopt an out of state child or baby.......we definately had to have a license. However, if we adopted privately through an attorney--we would NOT have to have a license.
This makes NO sense to me either, and as long as individuals have to have fingerprints, background checks, etc....as long as the individual isn't adopting an older or waiting child (who have issues)...then I see no reason for the license. But, that's Illinois for you.
And, I agree with the poster that this nation needs to have more uniform adoption laws. The only problem is that some adoption laws are so poor....those wouldn't be the ones I'd pattern after!!!!!
But, it's like the Interstate Compact agreements. I do not understand why----if the adoption is done legally in one state----the couple should have to wait for their home state to 'agree' to take the child in their state! Makes no sense to me!!!!
