First of all, congratulations on the upcoming birth of your child.

One thing you might look into is if there is a Ronald McDonald House near the hospital. If there is, then you could stay there for the time that the baby's in the NICU...it is VERY affordable and a wonderful help in many ways to parents of sick kids.

If the baby is born at 31 weeks or so, then you need to be prepared for him to be in the hospital for up to the time that he would have been born ... so about 11 weeks. That is the estimate that they give to preemie parents.

Our son, though, was born at 28 weeks and only had to stay for 6 weeks. We were lucky.

If you have any specific questions about the preemie, please let me know. It is a wonderful, rewarding experience but it can be very scary too.

(I had preeclampsia & had to deliver early. ... that's why were are adopting our next child!)
