if your are fostering

and you know you are going to be changing the child's name, just start calling him/her by new name.

If the child is already talking, then changing the child's name should not be taken lightly. If the child is pre-verbal, it is not going to be a big deal.

One thing a lot of parent I know have done is start calling the kid by a nick name, then you can still use the nick name and transition to the new name easier.

Examples:
b-mom named child Crystal--- foster parents called her Chrissy and then changer her name to Christine

kid's name was Fury- no joke- FP called him Bee-bop, adoptive parents changed name to Christopher

Some long name that started with A, FP called him Andy, adoptive parents changed to Andrew

I really would not change the name of a kid past 3 years old, at least keep name as middle name.
