Now it's the teacher's and school's fault for missing her pregnancy. I doubt anyone actually missed it. More likely no one cared, or it was "just one of those things". I teach in a great school, fairly affluent, and I've never had a year go by without a pregnant student. It's not that uncommon. At least our district offers parenting classes and counseling and probably half of the students and their parents decline it.
Parent's no longer have the time or inclination to return teacher's phone calls or emails. The most I have ever had at an open house is 9 (out of 140 students).
Our kids today are fantastic. They are bright, better educated in some cases, and full of energy. Unfortunetly, we see far too many parents who want to be their friends, or feel they can no longer enforce rules once their child gets to high school. Now I know that isn't every parent, but I'd be willing to bet it may describe these 14 yr old young ladies.
Throw money at education (please), social services, and anything else you want. Until families decide to take care of their own first, things will keep sliding downhill and I don't think any politician, Republican, Democrat etc... can change that.
