I took the 'pause' and 'or not' as the fries finding out for the first time that there was a possibility that that he had been adopted and was a little shocked. I did not see it as a degrading comment. There are many people in the world still that have been adopted and dont know it. I almost, in a round about way, see it as a support to open adoption.
