I think what makes it so horrible is the pause and then the "or not." If they they had just left it with "Maybe you're adopted." it might not have been so bad but to me the way they have it makes it seem like being adopted is a bad thing--at least that's the way I took it.

Yep I agree, that's what I found so bad about it as well. Not the whole maybe you are adopted comment just the way it was handled afterwards.
I showed it to my husband and he simply shrugged and said, I guess it's offensive but seriously it isn't near as bad as it could be. It's not enough to get up in arms about. I simply said he's entitled to his opinion even if it's wrong lol.
