Italia - Peru

Hola Graziella,

Welcome to the "club". You are not alone. There are a few of us that were adopted from Milan and taken to Peru in the early 60's. My understanding is that the IT consulate has a 3-4 page list with names of adoptees.

As coincidence would have it, I just met a man that was born in 1962 with almost exactly the same story as mine (ours). As it turns we both live in the same county (Palm Beach-FL).

I also know of a set of twins (boy and girl) and another girl that were also taken to Peru around '61 and '62. I know about them because my a-mother mentioned them to me. She saw them in the horphanage and later head that they had been adopted by peruvian families. In particar she remembers the little girl because in her words "she had the most beutiful blue eyes". You wouldn't happen to have blue eyes?

I had the opportunity to visit the orphanage in 2004 (it is no longer an orphanage) and the hospital is just across the street. As a matter of fact there is even a tunnel connecting the hospital and what used to be the orphanage through which they transported the babies. Because of this, most likely you were were born in the same hospital as I did.

If you haven't done so yet, I suggest you register to ITALIADOPTION (ITALIADOPTION : Italian American adoptees web community) and FAGEN (http://www.faegn.it/). Let me know if you need more info on these sites.

Good luck in your search. Let's stay connected because we are starting to connect the dots. Hopefully at least one of us gets to find their b-family.

BTW, forgot to ask. Were you recognized at birth? Do you have a copy of your birth certificate?

Both my adoptive parents are Peruvian. I was also taken to Peru, but I left Peru when I was only 6. Then we moved to Brazil where I lived until age 19. My weight at birth shows to be 3050 gr. It shows that I went into the adoption institute on the June 22, 1962 which means i was only 7 days old when I was placed there. I guess that means we were together at that institute for exactly 2 months! I'm not sure when I left the orphanage, but my passport has a delivery date of October 31, 1962. There is a date of arrival to Peru of Nov 2. 1962.
