Hi. I decided to do the readoption rather than getting the birth certificate after I talked to the surrogate's office at the county clerk's office. He said that if I/she moves and loses any paperwork if we just get the birth certificate, it might be harder to get a new one. With readoption, they are automatically registered in the county so there will always be a record. I had him e-mail me the paperwork and I will be filing them out and submitting them. Unfortunately, I will need to get fingerprinted again, since mine expired. I asked about doing it myself and he said most people do, you don't need a lawyer. PM me and I can send you the e-mail he sent me, it's from Somerset County.
