Renee: In Georgia it is not only legal, but encouraged to change identifying information on the adopted child's birth certificate. For example, if you are adopting one of a set of twins, the amended bc would read "single birth". It is okay to change the birth month and day, but not the year (many change to "gotcha day" or if a birthday is close to Christmas they may move it. My godchild's a-parents moved her birthday from October to July so she could have swim birthday parties AND so she could get in school a year earlier. The county of birth is usually changed to the county of residence of the adopting couple, as it is easier for them to remember where they lived than where the child was born when requesting birth certificates.
