Just wanted to address your questions about the roll of the birth parents and ap's quickly. I understand where you are coming from because when we started this process we had a similar perspective. But this process has completely changed that! I would highly suggest reading some books like "Raising adopted children" and "20 things adopted kids wish their adoptive parents new". Also, signing up with an agency that offers good parenting classes is a huge help in understand the very complicated but beautiful dynamics of adoption.
Growing up as a biological child there was A LOT that I needed to learn about raising an adopted child.
