By eight years old, most kids will ask questions when they are ready to hear the answers. Whether it's adoption or the "birds and the bees," I would suggest that you limit your answer to the question asked. If you try to pile too much on, you may lose a wonderful opportunity to communicate with your child.
I have two sons that were adopted, each at the age of 2 1/2. They are now 7 1/2 and soon-to-be 4. Each boy knows his is adopted, but the level of understanding is quite different due to their ages.
Good Luck!
