if the child was taken, there was a reason, it takes a lot for a child to be removed from a parent (was a social worker doing that work for 10 years..)
Tell your niece to get you on a three way call and have her tell the social worker of the case that she gives you permission to speak to the social worker and know about the case. That will solve some of it. Ask your niece to see the case document reports. They are always provided a copy by the attorney of the childrens court during the process...
Is the child placed with you through DSS? Just follow the rules of the SW if it is. If the relatives do not like it, tell them that you have to follow the rules and if you dont the child could be removed (although it is very unlikely unless the child is at risk).
