Oops forgot to mention another help in the p.t.
We have several different potty chairs as well as toilet rings. We purchased 2 of them, but with older Nephews and a Niece having gone through p.t., we ended up with a total of 5 potty chairs and 2 rings. I'm not suggesting you buy an abundance of potty chairs and toilet rings. The variety of potty chairs and toilet rings, has shown the Boys as well as they get to feel the difference. They know that not all toilets and potty chairs are the same or feel the same. Thus when we go out someplace and they have to use the toilet, they won't be as hesitant to use the toilet b/c it looks different or is a different color, or other.
As for going out places with newly p.t. Children, don't put training pants or diapers on them. Temptation will get the best of you, but resist. Do take them to the bathroom upon entering a store and show them it is here and ask them if they need to use it. While shopping ask them a few times if they need to go. Before leaving the store, take them to the bathroom again.
