I recommend Telling the Truth to Your Adopted or Foster Child, as well. Parenting the Hurt Child is a great resource also.

A good children's book is Maybe Days: A Book for Children in Foster Care. Zachary's New Home is good for kids who've had an abuse or neglect background. My son asks to hear this book frequently. There's a new book I love that might be good for your son you are adopting. It is called Welcome Home Forever Child: A Celebration of Children Adopted as Toddlers, Preschoolers, and Beyond. Very sweet and reassuring message. My son absolutely adores it!
