I know a family with 2 (well socialized) pit bulls that have adopted children and there was no issue. My son has a Rott and he's WONDERFUL with their child. I would think that someone who cares as much about saving animals as you do, taking on that kind of responsibility (that is often times MORE than being responsible for a child), would be looked at in a positive light by an agency. As long as your pets (boarders) pose no threat to a child, I can't imagine them being an issue.
