We adopted thru our State...........
and it is harder to adopt children under 5. We didn't use DSF for our adoptions, we went thru a private agency that worked on placing AA children. They mainly like to focus on older children in the system, but still work with parents that are looking for any age child. We wanted a child under 5, preferably under 3, this would be our first child. They did tell us it would probably take longer.
Well, about 3 months later we were chosen for a 3yr old boy. Our homestudy wasn't even written up yet, they had to rush it thru. His was straight adoption, parents had already been TPR'd. A year later, practically to the day, we were chosen for an 19month old little boy. This is a foster/adopt situation, his parents rights haven't been TPR'd as of yet, but I believe they have a court date in January to start this procedure.
Anyway, it depends on what age you are really looking for. If you want an infant under 1yrs old, then I believe you would have to do foster/adopt, and they would try and place only babies that they believe will not be reunified with their bfamilies, but its never a sure thing. Even with our last son, they could give his bmom another chance, and we could lose him. Their is always a chance going with foster/adopt.
