I wrote the beginning of this when my son was born, and sang it to him - then when my daughter was born I added to it and sang it to both them.

Once upon a time
I had big dreams
Of little bare feet
And high pitched screams

G-d had a plan
That was different than mine
My angel would come
All in due time

I’ll never forget the day
That she chose us
Said she wanted him to have it all
And though she couldn’t raise him
She’d watch him grow tall

And so we went together
Two mothers and one child
To welcome this sweet baby
With tears and with smiles

She held him close
She let him go
She tried to be strong
She cried as she listened to
His new momma sing this song

Just because you’re someone else’s

And then three years later
Again she’s all alone
This time a little girl
Who needs to go home

She’ll be with her brother
His father and his mother
And so……
She held her close
She let her go
This time she was strong
Two mothers cried together
