Welcome to the board. Nowadays there are SO MANY agencies that work with prospective adoptive parents located all over the country that it's not particularly necessary to limit yourself to an agency in your state. Not that there's anything wrong with using one in your state... it's a matter of preference. DH and I live on the east coast and are using an agency in Texas (The Gladney Center for Adoption).
At one point I had looked into Lifetime Adoptions in Grass Valley California and thought they sounded pretty good. I was disappointed when they said they had had problems in placing children in our state so they no longer did it. You might want to at least check them out on the web.
