Prior to the adoption an adoption subsidiy is discussed and determined/approved. If she didn't request it or one wasn't offered, and they have been formally adopted, then she won't ever get any assistance or subsidy. Im in PA and of course it may differ state to state, but we were clearly advised during our classes to make sure this is discussed prior to legalizing the aodption. The subsidy not a guarantee - its usually for those kids determined to have special needs (I would imagine a sib group of 4 qualifies for that!!). The 3 yr old may be a different story.

The tax credit is per child and can be spread out over 3 or 5 years. Its not a check... its like a deduction on your taxes and would reduce how much you owe the government and would increase your return.

As for the name situation, it all depends -- there are a number of reasons to change it and not to.
