Technically, if your child is coming home on an IR-3 (meaning that both parents saw the child before the adoption decree was issued), the I-864 Affidavit of Support and three years of tax forms are not required.
However, many agencies advise families to bring these items, plus pay stubs, "just in case". Even though the I-864 is a "bear" to complete, it is really better to have everything and not need it, than not to have everything and find that the Embassy needs to check something.
You can download the I-864 on line. Your agency should be able to advise you about how to complete it.
