I don't share some people's negative feelings about Madonna's adoption plans. And I really think that when famous people become involved in adoption, the general public becomes more aware of the issues. The millions of orphans in Africa today are desperately in need of homes, and even if some official agencies think that they would be better off in orphanages, I think most people on these forums agree that foriegn homes are better than orphanages. Perhaps some families will see this coverage, and decide that adopting one of these desperately needy children is right for their family.
I am still haunted by the closing comment in one of the Madonna stories, from a young child in the orphanage that Madonna is adopting from. The story closed with the child, who had never heard of Madonna, saying:
"I wish she had adopted me."
