I agree with the previous posters about the money issues, etc.
In addition, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't UNICEF part of the UN? The UN rarely supports anything that benefits the US or her people (not to say by any means that international adoption is done for our benefit, but many of our citizens are richly blessed by the experience and children). Not only that, the UN is rarely involved in projects that actually do much to solve problems in the long term and often, in fact creates as many problems or more than it solves. Recent reports about the UN peacekeepers in Africa, Oil for Food (billions to Sodom, et al), their success in the Congo come to mind without any significant thought or research. I would be suprised to see the UN supporting anything that has a really significant positive impact in the lives of children-- placing them with forever families who can/will love them and care properly for them, for example.
Sorry for being so down on the UN but their track record is nothing to write home about.
