It's been interesting to me to see changes in AA hair. Our son, AA, had soft curls at 5 mos. and by the age of your child, his soft curls had fallen out and his hair became very coarse. He's 8 now and we keep it short and sweet and he's so handsome. Our daughter is black/Italian. She came to us at 2 with very thick and curly and somewhat coarse hair. At age 7, her hair is very thick and long, very coarse, very curly. My AA husband says her hair will change again which is why not to relax yet. Many AA women tell me the same thing so I hot comb it once a week to make it easier to style and comb through Sometimes I let her go with no braids or rubber bands to give her head a break. Mostly I braid or twist it and it always looks very nice. Our two younger children are biracial and have very silky, looser hair. All they need is hair washed and combed out. They don't need any "product". Every child is different. Sounds like your daughter doesn't need any special treatment than what you're doing and if and when she does, you will see it. If the hair begins to dry out, it will need more moisture. I use a very nice product (available at Sally's) called Liv. It's a white creme. Depending on the thickness and dryness of your child's hair, you will use more or less. I personally think people make too big a deal about hair. Every child has perfect hair, black or white or biracial or Asian -- straight, curly, wiry, coarse or soft. We adjust the hairstyle accordingly. Amen.
