Tell everyone you know. Your hair stylist. Your doctor. Your doctor's staff. Your postal carrier. Your newspaper delivery person. Your neighbors. Your religious leader. Your co-workers. The security people in your building. The people who work at the deli nearby. Everyone. I was amazed at how many people were interested. Heck, DH was AD/USN and he had one father from a command clear across the base come to him b/c his daughter was pregnant and he heard DH knew "something about adoption".
Develop an e-mail listing of all your friends and families. Update them at least once every two weeks on how things are going, or sooner if you get a contact. This is how we made our connection.
Make a signature line 'ad' in your email and ask your friends and family to do the same.
Ads in newspapers can work well - stick with well read papers. Have had several friends make their connections this way.
One thing though - be sure to always answer your phone listed on all your materials. Forward it to a cell if it's not already that #. We had friends who advertised in the local paper. One Sunday morning they got a call - bmom who had delivered the day before and wanted to know if they were interested in adopting her newborn. They were the last of 5 ads. They were also the only ones who answered the phone when she called. By the time the others called back the connection was already made with our friends.
HTH best of luck
