From what I understand, it is for your approval for your I-171 H form - approval to adopt and as long as your I171H form is valid and you accept a child 0-9 months you should be fine. If your adoption took longer than your I-171H form is valid and you have to get a new one (God forbit it took that long), then you would have to have a homestudy update if your child was older than 9 months at that time. Clear as mud??

So, as long as you accept a referral under 9 months and your I-171H form does not expire during your process (I-171H form is good for usually 20 months - fingerprints 18 months) you should be fine.
