Hi Dina,
My Au Pair arrives next week and I get a good feeling about her but also get the feeling I'm going to be spoilt with her for the next three months and then I'm going to have to find a replacement!!
Here is how it works for me. I live on a small island in Spain so not alot of help to you. There is an agency here that finds the Au Pairs/Nannies/Domestic help etc.
The lovely girl I have picked will live in and is from Prague (Czec Republic). She's coming for three months and will be paid a minimal wage from me.
Benefits to her:
- Free board and lodgings
- Treated as one of the family (safe enviroment)
- Here to learn the Spanish language and culture
Benefits to us:
- Economical child care (schools are out for 3 months straight here in Spain)
- Someone to help me with the housework!
- 4 nights babysitting her week (don't need it but will be nice to know I can go the cinema every now and again).
I'm sure you know the difference between an Au Pair and a Nanny. A Nanny is here to work set hours and set days and Au Pair is more of a culture exchange kind of thing and helping you out (hope that makes sense). Don't get me wrong my Au Pair is obligated to work 6 days per week and up to 8 hours per day but she also has to learn the language and culture so there is a big flexibility thing going on.
Good Luck with finding yours.
