Reflections of the adoption of our son - with humor

I'm having a rather emotional day today. I think it's a combination of a couple of things. One being that I was up half the night worrying about DS as he has yet another respiratory infection and had a rough night with coughing. The other being that in just three short weeks - it will have been one year that we first met DS's birthmom.

I'd like to share two moments with DS that are touching, yet hysterical:

One night a couple weeks ago, I was holding DS and kissing his head. He'd recently started doing this thing where he stiffens his legs repeatedly as he makes a "rrrrn, rrrrn" sound. I was sitting there thinking about how lucky we are to have him. How sweet he is. I was thinking of C and how glad I am to have her in our lives and thinking of how she and bdad made such a beautiful little creature together. I was thanking God for giving him to bmom and then guiding her in her decision to let us parent him. I was choking back tears as I closed by eyes and kissed DS on the top of the head. And at that very moment, he stiffened his legs, bounced off the couch and his head came up and busted my lip on my tooth. OUCH!

Then, just yesterday. I was holding DS because he was sick and didn't want to nap in his crib. He wanted me to hold him while he slept. He was sleeping so peacefully. He truly did look like an angel (a runny-nosed, congested angel but just as sweet!). I was having a moment where I drifted off and started thinking about this time last year and how we were planning a small weekend getaway and gearing up for the summer and waiting for a match - and little did we know, a birthmom was about to decide to place her child for adoption and choose us! Then - in his "peaceful" sleep - DS flails his arm around and smacks me hard right in the face with his hand.

I can't help but to laugh that every time I'm having a tender moment and reflecting - DS does something to injure or maim me! LOL!!!

DH just says it's God's way of saying "You're welcome!!!"
