Hi- As an adoptee who collects books, have over 350 adoption books, I came across a rare find on ebay. A book by an adoptive father called Letters to My Adopted Daughter and I purchased the 1800's copy which is no longer printed and expensive and hard to find. The author/adoptive father was Rev. John Newton, who wrote the famous hymn "Amazing Grace"
I was touched as an adoptee to read these loving and gracious words from adoptive father to daughter. I decided to compile the book for modern readers and combined 2 small book volumes written by Newton for his adopted daughters in the 1700's and published in the 1800's. No newer issues available
The new book is called
Letters and Reflections to My Adopted Daughters complied by Jody Moreen, penned by John Newton. I did not write this book to make any money- self-publishing is expensive but I wanted Newton's letters to be read by modern audiences. Here is a review of the book that can be found on online book stores:
"Letters and Reflections to My Adopted Daughters" penned by Rev. John Newton England's pastor for 40 years and Hymn writer of the famous hymn "Amazing Grace" in the 1700's. Compiled by Jody Moreen, Pleasant Word publishers, a division of Wine Press Publishing. ( All verses to the hymn Amazing Grace are printed at the end of the book) Those who know John Newton's wonderful writings will love this window into his love for his family and affectionate letters to his daughters. An angle other books about Newton don't capture. To see a sample chapter, back book cover and summary, check out the title of the book "Letters and Reflections to My Adopted Daughters" on Amazon.com. A review by Joy Budensiek, reviewer: "The words from Amazing Grace have touched and blessed thousands of people for many years. We have all heard John Newton's story of his life from slave ships to salvation. What many people don't know, is that he was also the adopted father of two of his orphaned nieces. That same spiritual insight which penned the words of Amazing Grace, penned many letters to his daughters. Jody Moreen has compiled and edited those letters into a slimline book, "Letters to my Adopted Daughters." John Newton's timeless love and gentle "words of wisdom" for his daughters shines through on every page. Whether you are a part of the adoption triad, or a Christian looking for guidance, you will find it in these inspirational pages. A definite "must read
