Telling younger children about adoption?
Does anyone know of any good children's books that explain about adoption, specifically international adoption. I have 2 nieces (5 and 9) and my brother and his wife do not want us to discuss the adoption in fron of them. He said he does not want them to know until we return home with the baby because they won't understand.
I think it would be more confusing to just show up with a baby one day, but I don't know.
I would love to know a good way to talk about it with them. They were always so excited when my sister-in-law's sisters have been pregnant and talked excitedly about their new cousins and how they couldn't wait for them to be here. It is a little sad that I won't get to see them get excited to wait for their new little cousin from Guatemala. I thought we could tell them when we accepted a referall, but my brother wants us to wait.
(Just to be clear, my brother has been EXTREMELY supportive of the adoption and is looking forward to being an uncle! He has even helped us financially so I don't want anyone to think that he is anyhting but great. He even congratulated me on being an expectatnt mom!)
