SOme countries do not allow singles to adopt, but
others do. You need to become informed about the countries that do allow singles to adopt.
Some U.S. agencies will not work with singles and/or will give preference to couples. I started with an agency that supposedly worked with singles, but found they were more restictive. For example, couples could apply to adopt two children at once, but singles were not allowed to request this option. Singles were required to meet higher financial standards and provide more supporting documentation regarding guardianship plans, day care arrangements, etc.
Everyone who adopts internationally agrees on one basic principal. Choose your agency wisely! It is worth the effort to put in the research up front.
I adopted two non-related infants simulatenously from Guatemala. They are the love and the joy of my life. Like you I never met Mr. Right, but wasn't willing to forgo the joys of motherhood. Good Luck on your journey.
