Many more Korean adoptions are becoming more open. I am being told that many babies are arriving home with letters from their birth mothers. It is a testimate to new feelings about adoption in Korea that allow these channels to be opened. When I was adopted, this was unheard of...now it is much easier for children to locate their birth parents because of better records and a more open process. I'm not sure that there are a lot of adoptions that are as "open" as some of the domestic adoptions, but it is definitely becoming "more" open.

Though I've never had an interest in locating my birth parents, I am aware that many adoptees do want to make the search. This process eliminates a lot of the stress for them. I was actually pretty disappointed when my son arrived without a letter; however, we know enough about his birth parents that we will search for them if he wants us to in the future.

I hope this helps.
