Wow... Thanks for sharing your beautiful writing. I have had all these feelings. This is an aspect of open adoption others who have not experienced it will never understand. I too carried our DD's first mother sadness with me, not willing to let go of the fact she was grieving, not willing to allow the joy of this new life in my life to be real. She too had to give permission (how sad is that...she was comforting me) to move forward and be Bug's Mom. ANd then, when she says "I'm better BECAUSE you are her Mom" that was when I could let go just a little bit. Blessings to you, Jessica and Madison...
