Hi, interesting question. We experienced a failed adoption right before we adopted our precious son. We matched via parentprofiles.com and then flew down to Florida for the birth; held the baby, named the baby, fed the baby and then left the hospital as we knew the mom was starting to really bond with the baby. when we returned to the hospital the next day, the whole family (mom was 15) met us outside and told us she had changed her mind. We were devastated and flew back with empty arms and broken hearts. One week later we got the call from our agency saying a young woman had chosed our profile and wanted to meet us. Three days later we brought home our son (he was three months old at the time). We were overjoyed as you can imagine.
Well, I truly wanted the family in Florida to know that we had adopted and were not angry and no longer hurt--just wanted to know how mom and baby were doing. We went an email and got the nicest response from her father with a picture attached. I still have his email address and am tempted to write to see how everyone is--we think of them often.
We also matched with a young lady last year who changed her mind the week before the baby was due. Again, we wrote to each other for a few months, but I have to admit, it was hard to see pictures of the baby as we were SURE she wouldn't change her mind. But she seemed to have alot of family support and was doing a great job.
Although the communication didn't continue in either of these situations, they both had a positive outcome and no harsh feelings, only best wishes for the baby and parents.
Best wishes to you,
