I think children are more resilient than we give them credit for being. I think that DMC was okay even after such secrecy because he had the support group and talked to other adults who went through the same thing in their adoption experience as he did.
He was honest when he said he felt at times like he was supposed to just shut up, be good and be adopted...and I admired is tenacity in moving past that to find out what he really wanted to know...which was who was his birth mother and who was he himself as a result of who gave birth to him.
