We had a garage sale last year - friends & family donated items to it & we had a great turn out. Then we refinanced our home to get the rest of the money needed.
I've heard from friends who know of others that have adopted, that they sent out letters to everyone asking for donations. We didn't try that...I wasn't sure if I was comfortable with that.
