Hi Laurie,
We do have the mounting gates.. they are much safer and it is really easy to fix the holes.. little spackle and little paint to touch it up.. there is a wood filler too... It isn't much of a problem... my Dh is a builder and if he is comfortable with poking holes for gates than your not to worry...
