I had tubes, tonsils, and adnoids surgery when I was 7. Now of course I remember a lot more than your little guy probably will BUT... I don't remember the pain at all. I just remember a bad sore throat.
The one thing I do remember is the ORANGE POPSICLE

that I got after the surgery. My suggestion is that you continue your attachment parenting. You be the one that gives any drinks, ice chips, ice cream, or popsicles! Just allow the orderlies to bring the food into the room. You be the one to bring it close to his bedside and feed him.
Any surgery is stressful by its self, without the attachment factor. Try to hang in there and look at it as an opportunity to show Alex that you'll be there for him, offering comfort and love.
Hope his recovery is swift! From what I've heard, it's better to have these surgeries at a young age. Wish you the best.
