We are going to adopt a baby girl due in early March through an open adoption. The birthmom gave up her 3 month old daughter in June so we have been foster parents to her since then. The babies will be half sisters. Mom is planning on taking the 9 month old back and sharing custody with the grama (the Dad's mom).

I know this is confusing.....

Anyway, birthmom and birthdad (no longer a couple) would like us at the birth etc.and to take the baby home from the hospital with us and will be considered foster care until the adoption is complete.

We have alot of history with birthmom and are happy to have an open adoption.

We would like to do something nice for her at the hospital in terms of a gift. Any ideas?? We are working through our county and not an agency any ideas are much appreciated. I would love to hear from others who have gone through an open adoption and what your involvement was in the labor room etc.
