I have to say all of the above reasons. While my boys aren't home yet, we have chosen their names.
The youngest will keep his Russian name as a middle name. But his first name, Connor, is one DH and I had chosen long before our little one came into the picture. With have a VERY odd last name, and not many names fit well ... We love the name Connor, though, and it definitely fits him.
Our oldest (4) will also have his Russian name as his middle name, although we will call him by this name. At the age of 4, he knows his name and we didn't want to change it on him. But, his first name, Craig, is my father's name, so obviously it has quite a bit of meaning to us.
We gave them both first names WE chose, because WE wanted to give them something as meaningful as names. However, we did not want to take away what their mother had given them.
We are very happy with their names and CANNOT wait to call be able to call them by their names on a daily basis!! Only 2.5 more weeks!!!
