Another country possibility

I think Guatemala is flexible with upper age limits; however, I think they expect adoptive parents over 50 to then also be flexible with the age of children they accept. I would imagine the fact that you are only 36 would also have some pull--in this case, it is not both parents who are over 50. Guatemala is very open to adoption by singles, so I can't see where two parents, even though one may be older, should be any more complicated than an adoption by just one parent.
I would continue to look into China, too, though. Do you have a strong family support system to help you in the event that something were to happen to one or both of you? That might work in your favor when presenting your situation to adoption agencies.
