  • I've thought about this a bit more, and while I still stand by all I originally said, I'm also remembering a bit more of what it felt like to be me a few years ago, before I had done that hard emotional grappling work that I think is so essential as an adoptive parent, that Blessedbybug refers to. The term "family" can be a sensitive one for adoptive parents, because by the very nature...

  • I'm a pregnant mess in need of advice...
  • by Cassie85 Last comment: Yesterday at 02:09 PM
  • I just read your forum post. I wish I had more to say that would be comforting or some good advice. All I can say is that in high school myself and my family were very involved with a crisis pregancy center that also gave women a place to live while they were pregnant. I got to talk to a lot of them and hear their stories after they had their babies and none of them ever regretted that...

  • OT--cheap or thrifty for the holidays?
  • by devildogwife Last comment: 42 minutes ago
  • That's what we do too. Since my husband went from active duty to reserves, we took a huge pay cut. Every month is a struggle and we're in more debt than I'm comfortable with. Since we have military health insurance, the fiscal year starts over in October and we're hit with a lot of medical bills October-December, that are a struggle to pay. Cameron gets used clothes and I have no problem...

  • Awesome advice Port! Personally as a first mom, I try to focus alot on the positive stuff in my life and not the negative. My OA isn't so great and I'll be happy if I get a card with a picture or two. I have to choose not to think about that and focus on my family and friends that I have right here and taking care of myself. I have a few traditions that I do for my son. I love to read so I...

  • Do We Promote Media Adoption Bias?
  • by BethanyB Last comment: Today at 06:14 AM
  • I agree that we should praise people when they get it right. I find this to be true about teachers. When teachers are brought up, all you ever hear is people complaining and bashing them. The bad ones are the ones that make the threads or the news. You never hear about the good ones. That has always made me mad. I do not watch Brothers and Sisters but I did see one episode where she adopts...

  • by tawhite Last comment: 36 minutes ago
  • So I was told that my birth mother was found. The lady that told me that she was found, that gave me the information told me that it was accurate. She had me and my sisters birth records, which I already had, my bmothers birth records, new married name, address and previous address, and possible siblings. She assured me it was accurate. She called last week and told me that she was told to call...

  • Tawhite, Could you be upfront with the head of the volunteers and ask if they would consider teaming you up with another volunteer during this time so the kids don't get less attention? The reunion stuff is overwhelming to everyone who goes through it and what you are experiencing is normal and will be hard to put to the side when you are volunteering. Just be kind to yourself, Dickons

  • by spideygirl Last comment: Today at 04:38 PM
  • Hi, Kimby. I'm new to this forum. Our sons sound very similar. He is defiant, very active, aggressive, etc. He may have to leave his preschool. We are still trying to get in touch with Early Intervention. He was evaluated once, but they said at the time his behavior did not affect his learning. But it is affecting his learning now! He can't play well w/ the other children and has to often...

  • There is also online training to help get your hours. I would contact his caseworker as soon as possible to find out any information they can supply you with. Good luck and maybe this will be a Christmas Miracle.
