  • I confess we have always talked about our kids' siblings. We only have contact with one (out of at least ten), but we tell them what we know. All are half siblings, some we don't even know current names, and most we don't have pictures. We talk about them when we talk about our siblings, or other family members, just when it comes up in conversation. My dad was adopted and has various half...

  • Adoption From Ukraine Success Story
  • by CathyStone Last comment: 16 Dec 2014 01:37 PM
  • Finally I can share two more adoption success stories coming from my sister and neighbors who adopted independently in 2014. As an experienced adopter (I adopted twice from Ukraine) I was helping our neighbors and then my sister adopt from Ukraine. They finally completed their adoption and came back home with kids this year !!! Both of them adopted generally healthy sibling groups: 7 and 10...

  • Thank you all for the replies and perspective! bamabelle1982 - yeah, I don't believe my father was present so could see how I could have got my birthmom name... loveajax - yes, from MA (how'd you guess :>). she was not married at the time BUT was to be married a few months later per the notes I got from Catholic Charities. Perhaps since he wasn't around is why I got her name.....

  • by millie58 Last comment: 12 Dec 2014 06:45 PM
  • What kind of therapy has he been in? What was his past? EMDR works wonders. I am so done with the behavior of my 10 year old!!! Except, obviously, I don't get to be done. I get to parent and love this child who lies ALL THE TIME! And steals. And is defiant. Not bad tempered or oppositional, but classically defiant. And has no clue/care about how he affects those around him, or that he...

  • How old is too old?
  • by loveajax Last comment: Today at 11:58 AM
  • We adopted two girls. Oldest when I was 36 and dh 39. Youngest came home to us at six months. I was 44 and dh 47. Where I live, I would say the "average" age of first time parents is mid 30s. It is funny when I am with little dd...it is like I am probably too old to be her mom yet too young to be grandma! Both of my grandmas had their last babies in their mid 40s so I guess it...
